Titanic ll European Chief Appointed

Australian Billionaire, Clive Palmer, has resurrected his plan to build a replica of the ill-fated Titanic. Mr Palmer, released a statement in September 2018, as chairman of Blue Star Line, saying the company had recommenced work to build Titanic II to operate on the London to New York route. Mr Palmer said work on the Titanic II project was suspended in 2015 because his flagship company Mineralogy was in dispute with Chinese government-owned Citic over the payment of hundreds of millions of dollars in royalties to Palmer companies.

Clive Palmer had handed his ‘fugitive’ nephew Clive Mensink a new job as the European chief of his Titanic II project, making him responsible for recruitment, training and negotiations and giving him a new London office. Despite landing a new job, Mr Palmer said his nephew would not return to Australia to face the music over the Queensland Nickel collapse because liquidators have refused to cover his travel expenses. Mr Mensink is the subject of an arrest warrant after he failed to return from overseas to answer liquidators’ questions about the collapse of Mr Palmer’s Queensland Nickel business. Mr Palmer, chairman of the cruise ship company behind the project, announced the appointment on Tuesday and said Mr Mensink “offered extensive experience directing major projects”. Mr Mensink is a Senior Executive Officer with Mineralogy and has been with Mineralogy for over 15 years. As Project Manager for Mineralogy’s numerous exploration programmes, Mr Mensink has played a key role in the development of the Balmoral South Project. He has led and has been instrumental in the success of numerous business delegations which have represented Mineralogy in the Peoples Republic of China. Mr Mensink has a good working knowledge of all Mineralogy projects. He claimed his nephew increased cost efficiencies by 50 per cent and preserving the livelihoods of thousands of workers up to 2015, as managing director of Queensland Nickel. Malcolm says: Palmer certainly seems to add an element of controversy to his various business ventures, including the Titanic II project. I am reminded of an old joke: A British tourist visiting Australia is asked by immigration at Sydney airport, if he has a criminal record. He replied “No, I was not aware that I still needed  one to get in”!  However this joke would be considered inappropriate these days, so I retract it!
